One of the biggest complaints about Parker’s character arc is the lack of emotional depth compared to his predecessors. Gibbs, and even earlier leaders like Vance and Jenny Shepard, had rich histories that shaped their decisions. Parker, on the other hand, still feels like an outsider at times, with little focus on his past or personal struggles. Instead of exploring his leadership style in depth, the show continues to rely on predictable team dynamics and cases that don’t challenge him as much as they should.
If NCIS wants Parker to truly resonate with fans, the writers need to break this cycle. Giving him a compelling backstory, more leadership-defining moments, and stronger emotional stakes would make a significant difference. Season 22 has had some standout episodes, but Parker’s role remains underwhelming. With the show’s future uncertain, now is the time to fully develop his character before it’s too late.
